That Moment – Commemorating a Memorable Day
By Han Geyou (Hanshan)
That moment
I brushed aside your black hair with my gaze
Your trembling bangs
Revealing your clear eyes
Pure
Like the first rays of dawn
Radiating a gentle and wise light
I gazed at you
As if casting a long-lonely figure
Into the autumn waters
Letting all the wandering and desolation
Slowly settle in your gaze
That moment
You gently gathered your hair behind your ear
The delicate charm hidden behind your blushing cheeks
Quietly collected
In a deep, secluded forest
Only I
Lost my voyage in tenderness
Trying to find an excuse for my blushing face
Is it surrender to the charm of a woman
Or has it that you have quietly entered my heart?
Perhaps not
Perhaps both
Perhaps, it was two souls meeting by chance
Yearning for comfort

Sealed away Long-held emotions
Why do they quietly awaken now?
I once stood atop a high mountain, gazing proudly at the heavens
But in this instant,
I am hopelessly attached,
No matter what I do, I cannot escape your clutches
Can I still love?
I have asked the heavens countless times
“You can,
because you have a young heart
a soul repeatedly baptized by poetry and romance”
As the first bell of the New Year rings,
I seem to hear
God answering my devout question
Then love.
If physical desires can find their place,
If the wings of the soul can soar with the beloved,
If you and I can walk hand in hand through the rest of our lives,
I believe
This must be the most romantic, the gentlest, the most beautiful scene in the world of Romeo and Juliet
